Mangaluru, Aug 24: With each passing year, environment-friendly idols of Lord Ganesha are more and more in demand. Numerous organizations are engaged in spreading the message of minimizing damage to environment and succeeding in their aim.
During the last three years, experiments undertaken under the leadership of Venkataramana Kamath, also known with the name, Venki Palimaru, who happens to be the arts teacher of KPSK Memorial High School, Kanchinadka, have drawn lot of attention and appreciation.
The experiment is, to make idols of the Lord by using only corrugated cardboards. Venki inspired his students to collect old cardboards and out of the cardboards so collected by 22 students, prepared 22 beautiful shapes of Lord Ganesha with the help of Fevicol. This also helps in stopping wastage of resources as the old, unused cardboards alone have been recycled.
With the support of the convener of the school, Gangadhar Shetty and support of head teacher, Nagabhushan Rao, an exhibition of these idols will be arranged in the school premises for ten days beginning from August 24.
Vankataramana Kamath says that only cardboards from corrugated boxes used for packing are used for making these idols and that only some Fevicol and some colours have been used additionally. Venki is well known for his expertise in making clay models. Several of his students have won state level and national level recognitions.
