Mangaluru, Aug 24: The roof and walls of a house at Minadi within Kinya gram panchayat limits near Ullal crashed to the ground on account of incessant rain in the early hours on Wednesday August 23. However, five persons who were inside the house, who heard the sounds made by the collapsing walls, ran out of the house in time and saved themselves.
The family suffered a loss of about a lac of rupees in this incident. The house belongs to Srinivas and Bhagyashree couple, who belong to scheduled community. Before dawn on Wednesday, the sleeping family members woke up to sounds made by the house, part of which was collapsing. The couple along with children, Sushant, Nishant, and Shubhashree, rushed out and saved themselves. While a portion of the house including roof have collapsed, other walls developed cracks in the incident.
Srinivas is a coolie by profession and the family had lost his mother three months back. Srinivas, who suffers from heart-related ailment, works as coolie and the family is entirely dependent on his income. One of his sons is differently abled and two are attending school. The fresh bout of bad luck has left the family in the lurch.
Kinya gram panchayat president, Malini, and vice president, Siraj Kinya, visited the spot and facilitated shifting of the family to another building till the current house is repaired. Siraj said that effort would be made to repair the house by pooling money from the panchayat and local donors.
Revenue officials, panchayat development officer, Poornima, and others visted the spot and assessed the loss.
