Mangaluru, Aug 23: The city police on Wednesday August 23 held a peace meeting ahead of the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities on August 25.
The meeting was held at the police commissioner's office with about 100 people in attendence. During the meeting, police commissioner T R Suresh detailed information regarding precautionary measures and do's and dont's to be followed during the procession of the Lord Ganesha idol.
During the meeting the police commssioner gave the following instructions to the Ganesha pendal organizers who were present:
- Fire safety at the place of installation of the idol.
- Proper permission from owners of the place and electric connections.
- All public cultural programmes to be wound up before 10 pm.
- Sound and fire crackers to be limited to avoid health hazards especially near hospital and schools.
- Sufficient lighting and barricades and swimmers to be kept ready at places of immersion by organisers. The MCC should be contacted for necessary arrangements in this regard.
- Organisers should move procession tableaus without affecting public movement and quickly reach destinations.
- Organisers should arrange for volunteers at installation places during the night for any emergency response.
- Mescom, health, fire services and MCC to be contacted for necessary arrangements during Ganesha processions and celebrations
