Udupi: ZP president's car mows down 70-year-old pedestrian at Kaup

Udupi, Aug 23: An elderly man died after he was hit by Udupi zilla panchayat president's vehicle at Kaup here on Wednesday August 23.

The deceased has been identified as Chandru Mestri (70).

Udupi ZP president Dinakar Babu was travelling in his Innova car to Uchila to participate in the inaugural function of a kho-kho match in a school. When the car reached near Kaup town municipal office, it rammed into Chandru who was trying to cross the road.

Dinakar Babu immediately got out and rushed the victim to Adarsh hospital in his car. However, Chandru was declared brought dead.

The body has been shifted to Ajjarkad hospital.

Kaup police have registered a case.

    It was a very unfortunate incident. The deceased Chandru Mestri should have been careful while crossing the road. May his soul RIP. It was kind of Udupi ZP president Dinakar Babu who was in the car got out immediately and rushed the injured to Adarsh hospital.

    Unless it was a reckless driving , I don't think we need to connect it to ZP or to any other subjects.... at least he immediately got down and taken the victim to hospital. Unfortunate incident. RIP.
