Kundapur: Maharashtra resident in town for Ganesh festival dies after speeding car hits her

Kundapur, Aug 20: A lady who had come from Maharashtra to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in her native town met a tragic death in an accident that occured at Hangluru here on Sunday August 20.

Ramani Bhandarkar (63) was killed after a speeding car rammed into her while she was crossing the road.

Ramani was staying in Goregaon in Maharashtra and had come to her native town after three years to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with her family.

On Sunday, she got down from a bus and was crossing the road, when a recklessly driven and speeding Innova hit her. A critically injured Ramani was rushed to a private hospital, but she breathed her last on the way.

The driver of the car has been identified as Manjunath Nayak. He was driving from Hiriadka to Pune, it is learnt. He is yet to be arrested and police sources said that legal action would be initiated soon.

Kundapur traffic police have registered a case.
