Shivamogga: Former minister Hartalu Halappa gets clean chit in sexual assault case

Shivamogga, Aug 17: The second district and sessions court here on Thursday August 17 gave clean chit to former minister Hartalu Halappa in a sexual assault case.

Halappa had been accused of sexually assaulting his friend Venkatesh Murthy's wife at their residence in November 2009. The case was filed later on May 3, 2010 in Vinobanagar police station. The then Yeddyurappa government had ordered a CID probe, and Halappa was arrested after a week of evasion, after which he was also admitted to hospital for some days. On June 24, 2010, he was granted bail.

The case went on for seven years, and after hearing both sides of the argument, judge Rama acquitted Halappa, exonerating him of all charges.

Halappa was a minister in the then BJP state government. He had quit his ministerial post after the news broke out, apparently to save Yeddyurappa-led government from embarassment. Halappa however vehemently denied the allegations and termed it a 'political conspiracy'.

As soon as the verdict was out, Halappa's supporters, who had come to the court expecting the judgement to be in Halappa's favour, broke out in celebration.

    Hartal Halappa, former Food and Civil Supplies Minister of Karnataka and BJP leader.Halappa was accused of allegedly raping the wife of his financier-friend friend when he stayed in their residence on November 29, 2009. Then chief minister BS Yeddyurappa led BJP government was in severe embarrassment when a Kannada daily broke the story.
    Halappa, considered a close lieutenant of Yeddyurappa, was a three-time MLA from the Sorab constituency in Shivamogga district. Shivamogga is the home district of BJP stalwarts both Yeddyurappa and KS Eshwarappa. With Assembly elections scheduled for next year, Halappa wanted to come clean on the charges made on him.
    The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme is a flagship programme run by the central government to ensure the survival, protection and education of the girl child. The BJP which massed youths in Delhi when 'Nirbhaya' was brutally raped and made political tool to oust then Sheila Dixit government.
    The center government earlier ruled out removing Union minister Nihalchand Meghwal, a Rajasthan BJP leader whose name has figured in a rape case. Now in Karnataka rape accused is getting 'clean chit' due to his political affiliations.
    When it comes women empowerment BJP is shielding its rape accused. There is huge gap in practice and preaching.

    The courts problems are for any case ,the murder or rape is happned but prosecuter have been failed to give substantial evidence to prove ,so it is easy to escape anyone here from any crime.

    So he should be hanged because he belongs to BJP right ? HY Meti got clean chit within 6 moths by using state govt ACB chelas. Now the victim has come out and telling stories how she was abducted and threatened and tried to commit suicide. Luckily we have congress govt in Karnataka, imagine the sickular people reaction if BJP govt was in charge.

    Scarlett Keeling 's mother fears her daughter's rapist and murderers will evade justice, if our country will have these type of people who make judgement then anything is possible. Ma'am Ms Mackeown the only thing you will have to do is go to Hague to get justice...

    Justice delayed and justice denied means that if justice is not carried out right away timely, then even if it is carried out later it is not really justice because there was a period of time when there was a lack of justice. Real Indian justice is blind..... This case ran for years and during this period the culprit might have paid lot of money to the witnesses and some might have died...... once he was given punishment and without going to jail he stayed in hospital.... you can buy the doctors to give health certificate that he is not fit to go to jail..... If you have money in India you can buy anything.

    Looks like Shivamogga politicians wanted to bring down yeddy government by hook or by crook. Moreover other party in the denotification cases are two lawyers from Shimoga. How come?
