Mangaluru, Aug 16: "Yenepoya University has been awarded the 'Biotechnology Skill Enhancement Programme' (BiSEP) grant by the Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS), to conduct a one year post graduate diploma in multi-OMICS technology," informed Dr Keshav Prasad, professor of systems biology and molecular medicine, Yenepoya University.
Addressing media persons here on Wednesday August 16 he said, "Multi–OMICS is a highly interdisciplinary subject which includes genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and proteogenomics. Yenepoya University is one among the 18 institutions in Karnataka selected for the programme. This is the only centre to offer BiSEP course in multi–OMICS technology, as it houses state-of-the-art facilities and scientists who are specialists in cutting edge technologies to undertake such training programmes.
"This course will enable supply of skilled manpower required by multinational biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in their discovery labs, application and marketing. Candidates will be selected for the BiSEP – post graduate diploma programme based on their performance in Karnataka biotechnology aptitude test. Students for the programme will be provided fellowship of Rs 10,000 per month during the course.
"Centre for systems biology and molecular medicine has an advanced mass spectrometry facility with the latest generation high resolution mass spectrometer, one of the only three available in India. The trainers of this course have extensive experience in the field of OMICS technology and over the years have conducted several workshops and training sessions for researchers. Students trained by the course co-coordinators are placed in biotechnology companies such as Syngene, Thermo, Lupin and Pierian Dx and renowned institutes in countries including USA, Australia, Norway, Isreal and Singapore,” he added.
