Mangaluru, Aug 16: Senior IPS officer Hemant Nimbalkar took charge as the new inspector general of police (IGP) of western range here on Wednesday August 16.
He took over the mantle from outgoing IGP Harishekaran, who has been transferred to Bengaluru.
Speaking to reporters after taking over the charge, Hemant Nimbalkar promised stringent action against those who try to disrupt peace in the district.
"Common people should live in peace and harmony. If any miscreant tries to disrupt peace or cause harm to anyone, such person will not be spared and strict action will be taken as per law," he said.
"Before taking charge, I studied about this area and the situation here in detail. I have collected a lot of information, based upon which I will do my work," he added.
"Transfer is a part and parcel of police department. Our aim is to provide service to the people so that they can live peacefully," he said.
Nimbalkar is not new to Dakshina Kannada. In 2002, he was probationary officer in Vittal and Moodbidri. An experienced officer, Nimbalkar has previously also served as SP of Anti-Terrorist Squad, SP of Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, ADGP (internal security), Bengaluru, joint commissioner of police, Bengaluru, DIG (fire and services), and as IGP of economic offences wing of CID.
