Mangaluru, Aug 16: Senior IPS officer Hemant Nimbalkar took charge as the new inspector general of police (IGP) of western range here on Wednesday August 16.

He took over the mantle from outgoing IGP Harishekaran, who has been transferred to Bengaluru.

Speaking to reporters after taking over the charge, Hemant Nimbalkar promised stringent action against those who try to disrupt peace in the district.

"Common people should live in peace and harmony. If any miscreant tries to disrupt peace or cause harm to anyone, such person will not be spared and strict action will be taken as per law," he said.

"Before taking charge, I studied about this area and the situation here in detail. I have collected a lot of information, based upon which I will do my work," he added.

"Transfer is a part and parcel of police department. Our aim is to provide service to the people so that they can live peacefully," he said.

Nimbalkar is not new to Dakshina Kannada. In 2002, he was probationary officer in Vittal and Moodbidri. An experienced officer, Nimbalkar has previously also served as SP of Anti-Terrorist Squad, SP of Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, ADGP (internal security), Bengaluru, joint commissioner of police, Bengaluru, DIG (fire and services), and as IGP of economic offences wing of CID.

I have known the Police department for the past several decades. Most of the I.P.S. officers are my friends. Mangalore used to be a peaceful place way back in the twenties and thirties. There were
hardly any crimes then and the Police Officers were few. However crimes have multiplied and the traffic is not what used to be before. For this purpose there is the need of good Police Officers who mean business .

Mr. Harishekara had done good job and his leaving Mangalore is a loss to the community. However it appears that Mr. Nimbalkar has a very good track record. I join scores of people in extending a warm and hearty welcome to Mr. Nibalkar. May his tenure be A LONG AND FRUITFUL ONE.

Everyday there is new man coming to this post, whoever comes will use these same words "promises strict action against miscreants", please don't use this rubbish, people are tired of this rubbish... Do your job silently..
Whoever says the above sentence they actually do nothing....
There is no accountability in the police department & in all government departments due to frequent transfers.....
There is too much expenses involved for the government due to transfers which is of course our (tax payer) money. Due to frequent transfers, there is too much difficulty for the person transferred, his family & kids too...
