Bengaluru, Aug 15: BJP National president Amit Shah has been criticized by many for sitting cross-legged before the seer of Adichunchanagiri Math, Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, during a recent meeting.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah speaking about the incident said that Shah should know how to conduct himself before religious leaders.
“Karnataka holds religious leaders, especially the Adichunchanagiri seer in high esteem. Shah should have known how to sit in front of the seer,” Siddaramaiah said.
After the photo went viral in social media, hundreds of people have criticized Amit Shah while some have defended him too saying he did not do it intentionally to disrespect the seer.
Later a photo of Amit Shah visiting Sri Ravishankar, of Art of Living, was also circulated in social media. There too Amit Shah sat cross-legged.
Some photos of Siddaramaiah, H D Deve Gowda and Kumaraswamy sitting in front of the Adichunchanagiri Math seer without cross-legged and Amit Shah sitting cross-legged were posted together to compare them with the latter.
Meanwhile Adichunchanagiri Math has issued a statement saying Amit Shah was in discussion with another Swamiji and when Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji walked in, he changed his position and hence no disrespect was shown to the seer.
