Bengaluru man charred in burning car after saving wife, two kids

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 14: Dileep Kumar (38), a jeweller from the city, saved his wife and two children from his burning car. However, Kumar could not release himself from the seat belt in time, and died in the fire.

The accident occurred early morning on Sunday August 13 within the limits of Madukkarai police station limits in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. Dileep, accompanied by wife, Asha (35), son, Yesu (13) and daughter, Yethal (11), was travelling in his car to Kozhikode via Coimbatore. The family was to meet Dileep's elder brother, S Ashok, a financier settled in Kozhikode and spend sometime there.

The car in which Dileep and family were travelling developed a snag when the car was near the tollgate at Madukkarai on Kochi bypass road and the car engine went dead. Dileep tried to start the car, at which thick smoke started to come out of the engine. Dileep asked his wife and children to rush out and away from the car. They followed his instructions.

Dileep then made another effort to start the engine, at which the car caught fire. As the fire began to rage instantly, Dileep tried to come out of the burning car, but found it hard to release the seat belt. There was not enough time for him although he frantically tried to get out of the car, and flames charred him alive soon, policemen explained.

Dileep's horror-struck family wanted to help Dileep to come out but flames leaping from the car kept them at bay. They raised an alarm and a person from the tollgate rushed to help but before he reached, the car had turned into a fireball and it was too late to help the man confined inside the burning car.

Although fire tenders were sounded, they reached the spot with inordinate delay. The firemen extinguished fire that was still raging, and brought Dileep's charred body out. The body was then taken to Coimbaotore where autopsy was conducted at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

Many from the area felt that Dileep could have been saved if the fire personnel had reacted to the call promptly and rushed there immediately. It is said that the call to fire station was made at 2 am but the firemen reached the spot after an hour.

Madukkarai police, who have registered the case, recorded Dileep's wife's statement. They are investigating the case.

    Very sad and unfortunate,heartening too.
My sincerer advice to all drivers:
When there is temperature gauge in dash board please watch that , if temperature shows above the limit marked in red line then do not ever try to attempt re-start the ignition, seek a help of mechanic, may be radiator coolant was empty or its cooling system was not working properly.
Life is more important than everything.
    RIP

RIP. Even if the fire engine comes in 5 minutes also, it was unlikely that he could have been saved. So, better not blame fire brigades for this tragedy. Because, the car was in flames within seconds!

We sad incident. But had dileep not put his seat belt off ? or did the locking system did not open and got him struck inside the car ? While the car had already turned into a fire ball, how would firemen save him ? How far was the station from the toll gate ? All these things matters and firemen arriving in 30 mins should be acceptable as far as if it was located quite a distance from the accident spot. Whatever reason may it be, a precious life has gone from this earth and that the family needs moral support to bear this great loss. May god bestow courage on the betrayed family and may the departed soul rest in peace.

when it's travelling to far place, we must make sure everything is in perfect condition and most of time, if travelling with family, do avoid driving at night time specially, and follow road rules like hurry in driving and make sure enough fuel is available . RIP

Dear Reader's i would like to share my Personnel experience regarding seat belt not opening and panic attack same time .
Always keep a sharp object with u like a small good quality box cutting knife when i was working in Iraq Baghdad while i was driving our base came under rocket attack i pulled over my car and wanted to get out but seat belt stuck in panic i couldn't open it
but thanks to my army knife which i used to carry i cut the belt and get out of there while i was cutting my friend was keep on trying the push button for the seat belt as well finally it worked.

when ever we comes under panic attack try to calm down and find a way out just need to calm down and always prepare for your self fr any kind of situation .

Sir.. This is rarest of rare case. So, pls don't generalize & demand for ban on wearing seat belt.
When the smoke started, the victim could have immediately rushed out from the car along with his family. But... it is destiny

    RIP Dilip

Lesson to learn! Once you stop the car for any problem (like in this incident) first thing you should do is remove your seat belt before trying out anything else. The person here did the right thing by asking his family to get down but he did not remove his seat belt before trying restart.

RIP Dileep, Here he should blame himself instead of fire brigade . first, big mistake was he start engine again after think smoke & second, he already alerted his family & he should have free from seat belt before restart engine.
