Mangaluru: Road naming controversy - Deve Gowda favours Sunder Ram Shetty's name

Mangaluru, Aug 9: Former Prime Minister of India, H D Deve Gowda, has written to chief minister, Siddaramaiah, urging the latter to reconsider the stay ordered against implementation of the government's decision to name the road between Ambedkar Circle and Catholic Club in the city passing through Light House Hill after Sunder Ram Shetty.

 

He has asked the chief minister to hold discussions with the departments considered, hold a meeting chaired by Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, and take steps to name the road after the former chairman of Vijaya Bank, the late Sunder Ram Shetty.

    The Vijaya Bank is situated at the end of the road adjacent to Jyothi Talkies.

    It was built nearly 10-15 years back and not prior to that period.

    Prior to Mulky Sundara Rama Shetty was born St. Aloysius Church, St. Aloysius School, St. Aloysius College, etc., etc... were existed.

    Presently St. Aloysius is autonomous institution renowned in India and all over the world.

    St. Aloysius College is situated more or less in middle at the long stretch of the road.

    SO IT IS PROPER TO GIVE THE NAME AS ST. ALOYSIUS ROAD.

    He cannot think of these names and entire story as he does not know anything about and even don't know who is late Sunder Ram shetty and the road structure.

    This controversy has gone on, for far too long. Hope all concerned parties sit together and settle the matter amicably.

    There are certainly a lot of burning problems waiting to be solved, e.g., rising unemployment, the sorry state of affairs of Public Sector Banks due to rising NPAs (bad loans), rising inflation & cost of living, rising communal tensions and strife in society, ecological degradation, drug and substance abuse etc., etc.

    Hope we are able to devote more of our time and energy towards solving these issues, to bring about a real change in our quality of life and in fostering peace & harmony in society. As a compromise solution, it would be in the interests of all parties concerned to go back to the old name of the road, i.e., Light House Hill Road or Bavuta Gudda Raste.

    In recent Janatha Dal's office bearers election (From Mangalore to Kundapur) many officers elected / selected from bunts family. Deve Gowda is trying his best to use this opportunity for next election.

    Name of the Gowda family party is Janathan Dal (Secular ). Secular needs to be removed to suit his personality / agenda. Mr. Gowda trying to Fish in troubled water as usual.

    What is the logic/ rationale behind your suggestions?
    In reality the Mangalore City Corporation officials have to tender an unconditional apology to the public of Mangalore for recommending the change of name of the road which was named St Aloysius College Road way back in 1970s.

    For that matter I would say the Corporators and officials of the City are simply a ignorant lot.

    Probably U know well that Mr. Sundar Ram Shetty has started a School in Shirva. Hence I would suggest to name the road passing through his school in his name. More over now head office of Vijaya bank has been shifted to M.G. Road, in Bangalore. Mr. Sundar Ram Shetty's wife is living just behind M.G. Road. Can any staff from Vijaya Bank, have courage to ask BBMP in Bangalore to rename M.G.Road as Sundar Ram Shetty Road?
    For your information, like Majorities, Minorities r also united in our area, Karkal, Belmon, Shirva, Shankerpura, Katapadi etc.

    He is the one who deceived Mr.Ramakrishna Hegde so that he could become CM and PM. He backstabbed Ramakrishna Hegde along with three yadav's Lalu,Sharad and Mulayam.     When there is too much demand, it's alwats better to auction, name the road for the highest bidder & utilise this money to repair the road. Income to MCC too....
    But do this bidding every five years, so that enough budget available to repair the damaged roads.
    Nobody bothers here to repair the road near the Syndicate bank, light house hill road intersection, big potholes which are dangerous to two wheelers as well as four wheelers. There is traffic jam always only because of Potholes... can you imagine it????
    Better put this suggestion in the MCC meeting....

    List is growing each day.

    This is the future of we minorities especially Muslims & Christians in India. They want to make us second class citizens.

    I have a suggestion.
    Roads / Streets should be named after the Contractor who builds them.
    In this way when the roads are spoiled we know whom to blame. Furthermore, the contractor will take utmost care while building the road as his name will be at stake.
