Mangaluru, Aug 7: In yet another announcement of transfers in the police department, the state government on Monday August 7 transferred IGP (western range) Harishekaran.
IPS officer M Hemant Nimbalkar has been appointed new IGP of western range.
An officer of the 1998 batch, Hemant Nimbalkar served as additional commissioner of police (east), Bengaluru before this latest transfer.
Harishekaran has been transferred as IGP to Bengaluru headquarters.
Harishekaran took charge as IGP (western range) in December 2016. Before him, Arun Chakravarthy, who was in the same post, was transferred in just six months.
Over the past three months, in a series of transfers, Mangaluru received new police commissioner, new DCPs and new district superintendent of police. The move gains significance in the wake of unrest over the past three months in the district.
An experienced officer, Nimbalkar has previously also served as SP of Anti-Terrorist Squad, SP of Chikkamagaluru, Belagavi, ADGP (internal security), Bengaluru, joint commissioner of police, Bengaluru, DIG (fire and services), and as IGP of economic offences wing of CID.
