Mangaluru, Aug 7: "We are not against Alva's institution. We are only asking that justice be done to our daughter. Why is the police delaying questioning of Praveen, who is the PT teacher at Alva's high school? Truth will come out and details of our daughter's murder will no doubt be revealed if the police question him. His suspicious disappearance clearly points that he knows something about Kavya's murder. I urge police to arrest him without any delay and do us justice," said Baby Poojary, mother of Kavya, an SSLC student of Alva's high school who was recenty found hanging in her hostel room.
Addressing a press meet here on Monday August 7, an emotional Baby Poojary, with tears in her eyes, said, "We sent our daughter to Alva's for good education and also so that she can achieve great feats in sports. But within a few days of joining the institution, she was murdered. Thereafter, a conspiracy was afoot to hide the crime. Except for Praveen, the PT teacher, we do not know anybody in Alva's institution. On the day of Kavya's death Praveen himself showed her body to us. After that he went absconding.
"We have never levelled allegations against the institution. We ask for justice from Mohan Alva and the police. Please give us justice and conduct fair investigation," she pleaded, sobbing in front of the media.
Kavya's father Lokeesh said, "We do not have faith in the current investigation. The accused cop is himself a member of the investigation team. So how we can believe police? They visit our house, ask some questions and go back. Why are they questioning us? They should be questioning Praveen and the others who are involved in our daughter's murder.
"We have strong suspicions about Praveen. He lured us with free and standard of education in Alva's. At the time of joining the school he did not introduce us to the hostel warden or any other staff. Now after the incident he is absconding. We believe a big conspiracy is behind this," he said.
Praveen Bangera, a member of Justice for Kavya Forum said, "The district administration extended prohibitory orders even when there was no tension. We feel the extension of Section 144 was only to stop the protests against the failure of the administration. We will anyway protest on August 9 in front of the DC's office to demand justice for Kavya. The protest will start at 10 am. We request all who are with Kavya and in favour of social justice to participate in the protest.
"There is news that the protestors intend to defame the name of Mohan Alva and his institution. We want to make it clear that our protest is not against Mohan Alva or his institution. We are with Kavya, our sister, and demand justice. Mohan Alva and his close aides themselves are defaming his name with pro-Alva comments. They are saying Mohan Alva is an ambassador of culture. We also know what is culture and how to protect it. So do not allege that we are defaming him," he said.
Social worker and leader of the Justice for Kavya Forum Robert Rosario said, "Police are hiding many things from us. They are not giving proper answers to our questions. It is a pre-planned murder. We demand suitable compensation to her family and a separate police team for investigation."
