Mangaluru, Aug 7: Leaders of various organizations led by Samskara Bharathi on Monday August 7 expressed strong support to Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, who has been facing flak from certain quarters relating to the death of SSLC student Kavya in a hostel room of his school at Moodbidri recently.
The organizations announced that they would hold 'Alavarondige Naavu' (We are with Alva) public meeting at 5.30 pm on Thursday August 10 at Town Hall, to openly stand in support of Dr Mohan Alva.
Addressing a press meet here, Purushotam Bhandary, secretary of Samskara Bharathi said, "From past couple of months social media is active with regard to Kavya suicide case, which should not have happened. False allegations and abusive comments are pouring in on social media in a bid to defame Dr Mohan Alva and his institution. We demand transparent investigation and the accused should be put behind bars.
"Dr Mohan Alva has given full-fledged support to the promotion of art and culture by providing platforms for various artists. Mohan Alva has even agreed to cooperate with any probe that takes place with regard to Kavya suicide case. He is deeply hurt with the false allegations, and as a moral support to him, we are organizing 'Alavarondige Naavu' in which several athletes, writers, yoga trainers and artistes of various organizations will take part. Nearly 1,000 people are expected to take part. We have not invited any political leaders to this meet.
Organizations such as Samskara Bharathi, Karnataka Karavali Nruthya Kala Parishath, Sangeetha Bharathi Foundation, Sangeetha Parishat, Manikrishna Swami Academy, Karavali Sangeetha Kalavidara Okkuta, Tulu Nataka Kalavidara Okkuta, Karavali Chitrakala Chavadi, Yakshagana organisation, Mangala Magic Circle, DK District Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Kreeda Bharathi, Sports Promoters Club, DK District Amateur Kabbaddi Association, Jai Hind Swimming Club, DK District Amateur Athletic Association, Mangala Athlete Club, Mohithath Karnataka Association and Mangaluru Skating Club will take part in this meet.
In a press note, Chandrashekar K Shetty, representing Samkara Bharathi, stated that visual media and social websites have been floating rumours and unsubstantiated matter aimed at character assassination of Dr Mohan Alva personally and also the educational institution run by him. He condemned the fake news appearing in these sites, and demanded for transparent investigation into the events leading to the death of student, Kavya.
Chandrashekar Shetty, Pramod, Sudhakar Rao Pejawar, Ganesh Somayaji and others were present.
