Mangaluru, Aug 6: An aided of underworld element Chota Rajan who was absconding for the past two years has been arrested by Konaje police in Mumbai.
Vinesh Shetty (44), a native of Shirva in Udupi, is a notorious criminal wanted in a double murder case. He went absconding two years ago after obtaining bail from the court.
In 2003, black stone quarry owner Venugopal Nayak and his driver Santhosh were murdered near Ira cross in Mudipu. Six persons including a woman were arrested in the case. Vinesh, one of the accused who was granted bail, appeared for investigation until 2015, but then went absconding. A warrant was then issued against him.
Vinesh is an accused in a number of criminal cases of murders, illegal possession of weapons, attempts-to-murder and so on in Mumbai, Mangaluru, Davangere, Pune and Hyderabad. In Mumbai, he is wanted in four murder cases and a case of possession of illegal arms, in Mangaluru is he an accused in two murder cases, in Davangere he is wanted in a case of dacoity. In Pune's Ahmednagar, he is an accused in a Rs 3 crore hawala scam.
He was also working as an aide to underworld element Chota Shakeel in Mumbai. Apart from being an aide to Chota Rajan, he was an accomplice to Hemanth Poojary too.
Konaje inspector Ashok and SI Sukumar led the investigation and the arrest operation.
