Mangaluru, Aug 5: BJP leader and former minister Krishna J Palemar slammed the state government for planning to implement 'Eka Roopa Valaya Niyamavali' (common zoning regulations) for urban development.
Addressing mediapersons here on Saturday, August 5, he said, "If the state government implements 'Eka Roopa Valaya Niyamavali', it will cause loss to farmers and middle-class citizens. The impact will be a large scale in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts. It will be an injustice towards people living in these regions.
"The state government is framing rules without consulting anyone. Under 'Eka Roopa Valaya Niyamavali', land buyers at the time of registration should leave 30 percent of the land for the government. That means, a person buying 3 cents of land has to spare one cent for the government. A 3-acre agricultural land divided between three brothers should spare one and half acres of the land for the government. This indicates that the government is planning to loot the poor," he added.
"People of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu own small sites and limited agriculture land. Hence, it is difficult for them to spare land for government. Therefore the state government should withdraw this plan at the earliest. If they have to implement this rule, they should exclude Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts," demanded Palemar.
"If the government goes forward to implement 'Eka Roopa Valaya Niyamavali', BJP will be forced to hold mass protests. We hereby demand the government to withdraw this rule with immediate effect," he concluded.
Dr Y Bharath Shetty, president, BJP Surathkal block, and Vedavyasa Kamath, president, BJP south constituency were present.
