Mangaluru: Annual feast of Bondel church - Scores of devotees partake in Hore Kanike procession

Mangaluru, Jul 31: Ahead of the annual feast of St Lawrence Church, Bondel, an offertory procession (Hore Kanike) witnessing scores of devotees was held in the city on Monday July 31. 

ACP Valentine D'Souza flagged off the procession at Mount Carmel hall, Mary Hill.

The procession culminated at the Church premises, with parish priest Fr Andrew D Souza receiving the offerings.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Andrew said, "Today we are witnessing the miracle of St Lawrence. The offerings show how close we are to him. I am thankful to everyone for participating in this procession and for your offerings. The feast has thus begun and the coming days are holy and blissful."

Valentine D'Souza said, "St Lawrence has thousands of devotees in Mangaluru, and Bondel church is devoted to him. Despite the rains, you (devotees) have gathered here in large numbers. It shows your devotion towards St Lawrence. I wish everyone the best for the festive week ahead." 

Assistant parish priest Fr Vinod Lobo, resident priest Fr Leo Veigas, assistant parish priest of Vamanjoor Fr Jaison Monis, parish council vice-president Hembert Pinto, secretary Francis Veigas, Church committee convenor Rudy Pinto, secretary Wilfred, district Congress secretary and community leader and Rachana president Stany Alvares were present.

    Nice to watch from a distance how Annual Parish Feasts are still conducted with pomp and celebrations with hundreds of people participating with various offerings including fruits and vegetables.

    Let the rituals and old traditions continue to prevail, and let the devotees show their faith and unity so that many others may also follow out foot steps and bring in more unity and happiness in the community.

    may be it will be festive to see from eyes.a great grandeaur..
