Puttur, Jul 31: Police personnel of the town station, on Sunday July 30, took into custody a driver of a Maruti Omni vehicle after finding that he was transporting 2.8 quintals of beef in his vehicle. The vehicle also was seized in this incident which occurred near Sattikallu in Kedila village on national highway 75.
The arrested accused happens to be Mustaq. Beef was being transported from Uppinangady towards Mangaluru in the early hours on Sunday when some activists of Hindu organizations who came to know about it passed on information to police. The police who rushed to the spot, took the accused, vehicle and beef found therein into custody. It is suspected that the beef was meant for being transported to Keraa.
It is said that verbal friction arose at the spot between activists of Hindu Jagran Vedike and people supporting the accused at the spot. The police took immediate steps to see that the incident does not snowball into major confrontation. Police sub-inspector, Omana, led the operation. A case about the incident was registered in the local police station.
