Udupi, Jul 29: "Everyone should try to take care of at least one or two cows in their houses. In state, many BJP volunteers have lost their lives in their mission to protect cows. Every individual who wants to protect Gau Mata should try to rear cows in their homes," said BJP leader Tingale Vikramarjuna Hegde while addressing a meeting of 'Gau Samrakshana Prakosht'.
The conference was jointly organized by BJP Udupi district and Gau Samrakshana Prakosht for district-level leaders on Saturday July 29 at BJP office in Udupi.
District-level office-bearers of Prakosht were also declared on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, BJP district vice-president, Baikady Suprasad Shetty said, "BJP has formed this organization (Prakosht) for the protection of cows. Some people are killing cows not to eat but to create unrest in society. Cow shelters (Gaushala) in the district is also not sufficient to cater to the needs of people."
Chief convener of the event, Siddhart Goyenka said, "To prevent cow slaughter, we need to form many such strong organizations. We need to mark houses where illegal cow slaughter takes place, so that when BJP government comes to power in Karnataka it will be easy to control illegal cow slaughter."
He also urged people to start a signature campaign to urge the government to amend Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
Udupi district BJP chief Uday Kumar Shetty, Vinay L Shetty of Prakosht Radakrishna Mendon, district chief convener and Vijay Kumar Udyavar among others were present.
