Udupi: Gulf-based youth killed on spot as express bus rams into bike

Udupi, Jul 29: A tragic head-on collision between a bike and a bus claimed that life of a youth at Padubidri here on Saturday July 29.

The deceased been identified as Avinash Devadiga (28), a resident of Kemundelu, Yellur here.

Avinash was riding from Padubidri to Mangaluru when the express bus rammed head-on into his bike. The impact was such that the bike came under the bus, and Avinash lost his life on the spot.

Avinash was working in the Gulf and had come down to his hometown on a visit recently.

A case has been registered in Padubidri police station.


Another accident at the same spot

A tipper driver who was on his way to Udupi and who was on the right side of the highway saw the accident and applied sudden brakes. A private bus which was right behind hit the tipper. The bus was damaged in the accident.

    Lorry, Local buses & service bus drivers are in Mangalore driving reckless without care. Mangalore traffic system is one of the most dangerous with pathetic holes in middle of the road, levelless humps. Youngsters please drive slowly especially who come from abroad try for a week to know the current situation of the road, system of the traffic, humps, pathetic holes and speed of the other heavy vehicles.

    Venturing on the Mangalore roads or elsewhere in India is so dangerous that it looks as if drivers are out there just to kill someone. The driving schools are not training them properly. There is no discipline in driving. Heavy trucks are driving from the fast track, and not yielding to allow smaller vehicles to pass. Bus drivers in Mangalore drive so dangerously that it gives the impression that they just don't have control over the vehicle. Also, our RTO or Traffic Police is not taking sufficient action to stop the careless driving. If RTO wishes drivers could be disciplined, like imposing heavy penalties for line violation & speed limit violation. Each violation should be followed with a day's training at the expense of the driver/violator, and license should be returned only after completion of the refresher/training course for the driver. I don't think the drivers in India know that there is speed limit in the city or on the highways or trucks/heavy vehicles should not be on the fast track etc. Drivers training refresher course of one day should also be made mandatory so that road discipline can be reminded to the drivers.

    People working in gulf should not ride bikes when on vacation as there are no rules followed in India. So many youngsters have lost their lives in similar incidents. May his soul rest in peace.

    Attn: All the NRI's visiting India for a short vacations or business trips

    Please do not drive/ride vehicles immediately. Couple of days or for a week understand the roads, traffic & season. We might have been the experts on the roads before we left that country for a work abroad but a long disconnection creates the confusions & discomforts on the roads. Don't rush to take the bikes & cars on road.

    The both buses in above pictures are on the same direction towards udupi and traveling on two different carriages ways.
    I assume that it's because of diverting issue. But, No proper warning signs and safety measures are the main reasons for such accidents.

    Other main causes are:-
    We get driving license without proper training.
    We get driving license without proper testing.

    This tragedy would not have occurred if the Bus driver cautious . These kind of accidents are ever on the increase. Hope The Police Department will take serious notice of this.

    When we pay tax it's our right to demand for government busses. Government should not get scared from pvt bus owners. People are paying the tax so people are asking bus from there own money. Y can't ramanath Rai release a govt bus??(I'm not anti congress since he is Dist inchrge I'm asking)

    I used to drive every year from Mumbai to Mangalore.
    Last year I went off the road near Suratkal after a express bus driver blared his horn behind me.
    Praise the Lord we escaped unhurt ...

    Buses ply between Mangalore to Udupi are Out Of Control. Only way to stop this problem is Mangalore -Udupi Youth organizations taking serious action against these rash drivers. Almost every Express bus is a Death Dart coming towards Us. While driving our vehicle,these Buses do come face to face until they leave few inches from colliding with our vehicles. Heart beats go up thinking about the close encounter with these rash buses. RTO is more worried about Ticket issue than life and death issue on the roads. High Volume Horns are damaging the Ear Drums of little Babies in the arms of their Parents who walk on footpaths of Smart City
    My Humble Request to all the Youths of Mangalore and Udupi, please join together and take serious action against these Rowdy Drivers so Your friends and Loved Ones can live safely.

    I have no words to express my feeling on this terrible tragedy which took the life of a young man. This man came on vacation from Gulf but short-lived due to this fatal bus-bike accident. May the soul of Avinash Devadiga rest in eternal peace and deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and loved ones.

    You are looking at the Wrong bus and wrong accident. It appears that the Bike rider was overtaking and hit head on to the oncoming bus from the front. The red bus is in its lane and bike is hit on the bus driver side from the opposite direction. Perhaps if you look at these pictures carefully and apply the logic then you might disagree with your above comment.

    If there is a elevated median on the left side of the bus, it is obvious he is on wrong side. fyi, this is 4 lane road with a median in between. You can see vehicles on that side where the bus should have gone... Instead bus took this side, probably that lane was under repair.... But then it is the bus which has to go slow when on wrong way.
