Mangaluru, Jul 29: In a proud moment for Mangalureans, John Baptist Rodrigues, an alumnus of St Joseph Engineering College. Vamanjoor here, from the mechanical engineering class of 2016 has been recently featured in the July 26, 2017 issue of The New York Times, one of world's leading newspapers.
John was recognized in a feature on Collaborizm, a kickstarter-esque website in New York, for his invention - CoffeeBot, a Bot that delivers coffee to people in the workplace or elsewhere. The Bot rolls around the office delivering coffee and delivers office documents to individuals. The Bot is controlled by employees’ cellphones. The product had won the first place in the Collaborizm Hack-a-thon.
Collaborizm works on providing support for companies with ideas in their pre-incubation stage. The website helps inventors connect with mentors, suppliers and early stage capital. John is a multifaceted individual with interests in product design, music, and other creative outlets. He is the founder of designwithjohn.com and is currently preparing for his masters studies in product design. John and his friends are also working on the second iteration of the Bot and aims to see the Bot rolling out Coffee in Starbucks and other places.
John along with his friends Harsha Alva and Claren Martis, also alumni of SJEC, are excelling in the field of product design, coming up with innovative solutions. Harsha Alva and his team had developed a multi-functional CNC machine used primarily for laser cutting during his final year studies at SJEC.
