Mangaluru, Jul 29: Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr Mohan Alva, expressed readiness to face any kind of investigation relating to the death of student, Kavya, inside the hostel room of his institution. "The administration of the foundation is completely transparent. Unnecessarily our institutions are being targetted by misusing the case of suicide by student, Kavya. Never in the history of our institution has any murder happened. If police, media or individuals want to investigate this suicide from any angle, we are prepared to face it," he asserted.
Alva was reacting to rumours making the rounds about the death of Kavya, a SSLC student, inside her hostel room on July 20. He concurred that when a crime happens, police investigation needs to be conducted. He said that creating confusion in the minds of the general public by spreading false information, and inflicting mental torture on him, who holds a position of responsibility, and Alva's group of institutions, which is being run transparently since the last 25 years, are unjustified. "All 26,000 students studying here and their parents have reposed trust on us. We want that the suicide case of Kavya to be properly investigated and truth is made public at an early date," he stated.
In the meanwhile, city police commissioner, T R Suresh, said that investigation headed by north division assistant police commissioner(ACP), Rajendra, has been ordered into this incident. He said that the parents of the student had met him recently, duly expressing doubts on some points. He said that the ACP and investigating team has been given directions to hold detailed investigation towards ensuring that the parents of the girl get justice.
Local police said that Kavya had committed suicide and that it is not a case of murder. "During the investigation, we found that the sari she used for hanging herself belongs to her roommate. Kavya was depressed about the low marks she got in Hindi examination recently, and there is likelihood of her choosing to end her life for fear of facing parents. About the claim of parents that Kavya had told them that her sports training was scheduled at 4 am, the college administration told us that the training was to be held at 4 pm on Thursday," they added.
"Kavya wore her track suit for attending training, waited for other students to leave the room, and then bolted the door from inside. She then removed the sari of her roommate from a cupboard and hanged herself from the ceiling fan," the police stated. The students who returned from training after half an hour did not get response even after repeatedly knocking at the door. They peeped through the window and found that Kavya had committed suicide. The students found Kavya hanging from the sari but she was still trace of life in her. They immediately used alternative route to reach into the room, brought Kavya down, after which college administration took her to hospital. But she did not respond to efforts made to save her," the police added.
