Bengaluru, Jul 27: It is a week since rumours were heard that Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai would be made the home minister of the state. Rumours seemed like gaining credence three days back. On Tuesday Rai was summoned to chief minister’s residence and asked to take up the post. On the same night, news was flashed that Rai became the home minister.

But he is not the home minister yet. In a new development chief minster on Wednesday blamed the media for ‘making’ Rai home minster. He said there are other three vacancies to be filled in the cabinet and home minister will be made after that.

But before that Rai had admitted to the media that he was happy to be the home minister. “I have managed several portfolios in the past. It is true that the CM discussed the issue of making me the home minister,” This was taken a clear signal for him to be the home minister.

Later in the evening on Wednesday, Rai said that he is a committed worker of the party and will do whatever the party assigns him.

So on Tuesday, Rai was ‘almost’ a home minister and on Wednesday the pictures changes. What is the reason behind this? Why Siddaramaiah was angry with media when he said “Did we announce Rai's appointment as the new home minister? This is nothing but jumping to conclusions.”?

It is now being discussed that there was heavy opposition from the opposition parties as well as some quarters in Congress party itself against Rai becoming home minister. Jagadish Shettar from BJP had said that Rai had failed to maintain law and order in his own constituency Bantwal and is not competent to look after the law and order situation of the state. Several leaders from the opposition and from congress voiced their concerns on the same issue, it is gathered.

Analysts say that this prompted Siddaramaiah to reverse or withhold his decision.
