Bengaluru, Jul 26: Without outrightly dismissing the reports, chief minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday July 26 lashed out at the media for airing news that Ramanath Rai had been appointed the home minister of Karnataka.
Late on Tuesday July 25, news broke out in Kannada TV channels and other media that Dakshina Kannada district in-charge and forest minister Ramanath Rai had accepted the home portfolio on the request of the state government and the Congress high command.
However, on Wednesday, the CM hit out at the media, questioning, "Did we announce Ramanath Rai's appointment as the new home minister? This is nothing but jumping to conclusions.
"Three of the ministerial posts are still vacant. Once those are filled, we will appoint a home minister," he added.
He was speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting.
"Cabinet portfolios are yet to be distributed. Nothing can be said at this point on who would be next the home minister. We have never mentioned Ramanath Rai's name as a probable candidate for the post. Let the other ministerial positions be filled first, then we will decide about the home ministry," the CM said.
