Mangaluru, Jul 25: Speaking on the stay order issue on renaming of Light House Hill Road also known as St Aloysius College Road, as Mulky Sundararama Shetty Road, for which he has received some criticism from some people, MLA J R Lobo said, “It was only a temporary stay order. The stay order was issued after students of the college came to the streets,”
Lobo was speaking at Wenlock Hospital on Tuesday, July 25, where he had called a press meet to brief about the upgradation of hospital.
“The district is already facing many issues. The state government issued the stay order to avoid a worse situation. It was to create mutual understanding between two parties. The government in its order had suggested that both parties should sit together and find a solution. The district in-charge minister will lead the meeting," he said.
"I am not against the renaming of the road. I do not support any particular community. As a local MLA, I have the responsibility of maintaining peace and social harmony. As our city is in the smart city project, we do not want any issues to malign the reputation of Mangaluru. The protest from the students and the reaction to it could have led to a bad situation. Mulky Sundararama Shetty was a great personality and I am happy that one of the roads here will be named after him. The government hopes that the issue will be solved with a unanimous decision from both the parties," he added.
