Bengaluru, Jul 25: A Karnataka court sentenced a Pakistani terrorist to seven years in jail in a money laundering case.
The terrorist has been identified as Mohammed Koya.
The stringent anti-money laundering law, Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) enacted in 2002, allows a maximum of seven years of imprisonment.
The PMLA was implemented from 2005.The main objective of PMLA is to check serious crimes of tax evasion, generation of black money and money laundering.
This is the third conviction under PMLA in the country. All the convictions were pronounced this year.
The first conviction came in January when a Ranchi court convicted former Jharkhand minister Hari Narayan Rai. He was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5 lac.
In March, a Kolkata court convicted a person named Alauddin under money laundering charges related to illegal possession of narcotic drugs.
