Mangaluru, Jul 25: Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Shakti Nagar, recently announced two annual awards titled 'Basti Vaman Shenoy Vishwa Konkani Seva Puraskar'.
The awards are given in the name of vetaran Konkani activist Basti Vaman Shenoy, who turned 80 this year.

The awards recognise outstanding contributions by Konkani-speaking individuals or organisations managed by Konkani speakers, in the field of education, governance, social service, health care, science, journalism, literature (non-Konkani), performing arts, humanities, industry, commerce, or sports, among others.
The awards are a part of 'Vision TVM', which dreams of one strong Konkani community by 2020. Both awards carry a cash prize of Rs 1 lac and a citation.
Separate awards will be handed out to men and women.
The criteria for nominations are as follows -
1 An individual, group of individuals or an institute can be a nominee
2 The native language of the nominee must be Konkani
3 The nominee must be more than 18 years of age
5 In case of an institute, the same must be founded and managed by Konkani-speaking individuals
7 The aforementioned institute must be in service for a minimum of five years at the time of considering its eligibility
8 Self-nominations are allowed by individuals and institutions

The last day for filing of nomination will be Wednesday, September 20.
