Mangaluru: Christian family of 5 reconverts into Hinduism in presence of Vajradehi Swamiji

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jul 24: A Christian family of 5 became Hindus on Sunday, July 23 in the presence of Sri Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Vajradehi Math of Gurpur.

Arun Monteiro from Padavinangadi is the head of the family. His family including mother reconverted after being Christians for 40 years. It is said that they were Hindus before that. So it is effectively going back to the old religion.

As per details available, Arun Monteiro approached the members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) and said that they were willing to become Hindus. HJV leaders in turn approached Vajradehi Swamiji and sought his guidance.

On Sunday, the family of 5 became Hindus in the presence of Swamiji. Rituals concerning the conversion were held. Arun, his wife, children and other were declared Hindus after the necessary rituals.

Swamiji said that the people concerned came to him willingly and they were not forced to embrace the religion. “They faced some problems there. So they wanted to become Hindus. There was no pressure from anybody in this matter.” Swamiji said.

Religion was created by man and nothing good has come out of it other than violence throughout history!!!! Doesn't matter what religion you convert to, at the end, you are either burnt, buried or fed to the birds and beasts. Only your soul will become the part of the universe, and the good (or evil) you have done will be remembered.

Rathnakar, no doubt Hinduism is friendly and logical religion. However, recently it has been used by dirty leaders in a different way for their selfish political benefits. The lynching of innocents, attack on young girls, attack on minority worship places gives a different picture of friendly, logical religion. Unless educated Hindus with full knowledge stand against these rowdies, Hinduism will gradually lose its glory as it has happened to Islam due to few, radical, terrorist Muslims. By peace everything can be won, but with violence and bloodshed only defeat and loss.

I am a believer of Jesus christ. Never mind if the family has converted to hinduism.
We pray for them to be peaceful people like Christians. True Beleiver of Jesus know what Christian means. Being a Christian is not a easy task. Ready to accept humiliation, ready to forgive your enemy, hurts no one, help the needy sick homeless and be charitable. Many more obligations and sacrifice to accept to be a Christian. When people can't take such challenge or heavy cross on thier shoulders they end up turning away the way this family has done. God bless them.

John Tauro, if you are a true Christian hypocrisy, discrimination, partiality, lavish feasting by the elite and fasting by the downtrodden, preaching love towards fellow beings and practicing hatred within the community WILL not change a true Christian's faith. We are living as Christians trusting, loving and praying to Jesus. Those who have weak faith will fail by looking at elite. Those who take the tears and pains with smile trusting Jesus will never fail. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and its righteousness, and everything will be added unto you". Hinduism is not faith based, nor is it a religion. Sanathana Dharma is eternal and does not have any religious connotations. These guys have made a determination to convert back to 'Hindu' dharma for which there is no procedure. The Ashram ceremony is at best ceremonial only. Even, being a Hindu if you are fed up with it then simply stop doing it. I don't see a reason for conversion other than official requirements.
Just like how the empires and emperors died, this religion concept will also die. It won't be during our lifetime but the newer generations are better thinkers and have the guts to question.
We can all argue this topic until kingdom comes, but the sun will explode before that.

Even threat can not be ruled out. However, we can not blame any groups even if they forced for conversion. We have to blame the person whose faith is weak. Our Saints shed their blood for Christ and for the faith. Just converting to any religion overnight without knowing basics of that religion is utter stupidity. Be a Christian, Hindu, Muslim or follow any religion. One should follow it as per its teachings and commandments. Simply pouring water on forehead, having circumcision or putting a thread around you will not convert you. True conversion comers from heart, mind and spirit.
Giving up religion for worldly things is like winning the world and losing the soul.

If only this was a reverse event, we would had Mangalore Bundh, burning of tyres blocking roads, etc. Just imagine a genuine case of a Hindu Family got converted to Christianity, all comments would have pointed fingers at Catholics, Missionaries trying to Convert to Christianity. They should be sent back to England, they should be convicted for Conversion etc.

Now that a Catholic Family is being converted to Hinduism, it is by their own choice and will etc etc. !! Look at the irony of the matter.
May be they have been advised about Govt Schemes available for them now, rather than being Christians, who hardly enjoy any Govt benefits.!!
Hypocrisy at it's Best is what explains here. People still talk about Missionaries being Rich here. May be this family is paid more by Swamijies and Hindu outfits to convince them to become Hindus, we do not know hidden facts behind this.
In general people who comment against missionaries, when it comes to schooling / education to children almost all prefer a Catholic / Christian Institution.

Is there any Christian brigade to come to the street to oppose this conversation.
I don't think any Christian can form any kind of brigade and waste their time on the Streets and fight or oppose these kind of conversations

I have seen Hindus converted to Christianity and the Hindu brigades attacked these and opposed these type of conversations.

Every person has their own interests to follow or embrace any religion nobody are allowed to oppose these conversations. It is the wish of the individual.
We have seen many people in the world follow Hare Rama Hare Krishna sect.
Every country has their own rules and regulations of their own. When Indians move from India to other countries they judicially follow the rules of the country where they are going to live or work.
In some Muslim countries u have to follow the strict rules of their country a person can't even follow his religion nor keep any pictures of their god's nor can pray openly if they found any religious books or seen praying they are punished by the government
People all comment from different part of the world saying that conversation is wrong but they follow the rules of the land where they are living and working but doesn't even have the guts to talk about this discrimination or law of the land only they comment on when something happens in India.

One has to have a proper religious scriptural basis to talk about the denomination, like read some upanishads. I will tell what it is. We don't differentiate people based on the caste.
Like hinduism is based on caste system!, but suppose if a dalit christian(secular term not christian term) can be a prime minister.. we accept him based on his credentials.. will hindus accept a dalit prime minister??? and we don't have any scripture differentiating people on caste!! all are equal...i will be happy if a hindu lives pious Hindu way of life.

The choice of people to choose the path should be free, we live in an interconnected world.
Also we know from Bible/Vedas/Koran/Granth saheb etc there is only one infinite intelligence that rules the universe and everything in it and beyond...........That infinite intelligence is captured in human language by various names - God,Abba, father,Parabrahman, Allah, Gurudev, Ishwar etc
These are some of the names given to that infinite intelligence.
If one can realise that INFINITE INTELLIGENCE IN ONES SELF, that is the purpose of life.
So how does it matter if one is Hindu/Christian/Muslim/Sikh/Jain/Jew !!!

I am being a christian learnt vedas/Vedanta/upanishads/Sri Vidhya/brahma sutras etc as i wanted to know my culture ....my Indian culture and my Hindu gurus, some of them were realised masters, never asked me to leave my faith in yeshua (Jesus Christ), i only found out what is mentioned in bible is also there...so where is the difference???.......my faith in christ has deepened ever since and my love and respect for hindusim and other faiths has also deepened. I love the concept of vishista advaitha philosophy which describes this very infinite intelligence as brahman.

so anybody who has love for his fellow beings and all the other beings around him, love that infinite intelligence called God/Ishwar/Brahman and anyone who creates rift and brings hatred goes away from that infinite intelligence, what matters is how much you realise that infinite intelligence in you and around you is all what matters.

As Sufi saint Rumi said......"I went to temple.......Church....mosque....i did not find god........but i found that in my heart "

Upanishads say we are all the members of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' which means world is one family and we are all the members of it. It is important to be good human being first and all the religions preach and propagate humanity. One doesn't need to keep rotating their religious status to be a good human. This whole scenario of converting and reconverting appears like people migrating to a new place, live there for some years and come back to their orignial place settle down.

My dear Hinud brothers and sisters,
You always blame the Christian missionaries of converting from Hinduism. But let us look at the scenario in the world around. Do you know how many so called Christians are converted to Hinduism? Just go to You Tube and see how many foreginers are giving testimony about becoming Hindus. The Christians of the west after being caught up with modernity went away from the religion and slowly became Godless people. Christians did not do enough to keep them back. Now many of the Hindu swamijis are going to the West and preaching Hinduism. The Hare Ram Hare Krishn cult is flourishing in the west including university campuses. This is all because we Christians have failed to live an exemlary life taught by saviour Lord Jesus Christ. Gandhiji said that he loved Jesus Christ but not Christians. Many of the Hindu Organization leaders claim that Hindus have only one country that is India whereas Christians and Muslims have many countries and they can go there. Please research and see whether those migrated to the West are only Christians. Most of them are Hindus. Therefore it is not proper to separate between Christian countries and Hindu India. Therefore, let us not focus on conversions. Everyone should have the freedom to choose his/her religion. What is important here is what Mother Teresa said " I do not convert anyone. I help Hindus to become better Hindus, Muslims to become better Muslims and Christians to become better Christians" What use it if we fight in the name of the religion and fail to live the precepts of that religion.

As a human Jesus says on this earth I quote:

John 17:24 "Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see MY GLORY WHICH YOU HAVE GIVEN ME, FOR YOU LOVED ME BEFORE THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD. Unquote.

Jesus was existed prior to the foundation of the world / prior to the foundation of this earth and prior to the creation of human beings.
I quote John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Unquote

We were following the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob since world began and since the humanity existed on this plannet earth.

HENCE CHRISTIANITY WAS EXISTED PRIOR TO ANY FAITH EXISTED ON THIS PLANET EARTH.

We the Christians were named as Christians only after Paul preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

    Please remember:
Jesus says in the Gospel I quote John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Unquote.

The devil is growling and prouling every now and then. Don’t heed to devils whispering desires and his plans of prosperity to humans will last only temporarily.

Hence those humans followed Purity in life, righteousness, truthfulness, faithfulness in Christ Jesus only will surive rest of all will perish beginning from the idol worshippers.

HENCE THE CHURCH NEEDS PURE SOULS NOT DIRTY SOULS.

I quote Revelation 9:18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. Unquote.

It is a common question, which caste the new converts to Hinduism will get. VHP said they would dig into the person's ancestors and after that will issue caste certificate, but in th meantime, the convert can have the caste he wants.

In India some times, people are given admission to MBBS even though they have just 35% marks. IIT have given admission to those SC/ST candidates who have failed in CAT, but have 12th certificate. To take advantage of this, some people may convert and say they are dalits, but Govt does not recognise such cases for reservation unless it is proved.

Religious belief is a personal matter of a mature person. There are many people who keep converting every day from one religion to another. History says, Mangalorean and Goan Roman Catholic Christians were once Hindus, mainly belonged to Goud Saraswath Brahmins (GSB). There is a relation between Pai, Kamat, Mallya, Baliga, Rao, Shenoy, Prabhu, Shanbagh, and other surnames of GSB and D' Souza, Fernandis, Monteiro, Saldhana, Gonsalvis, Pais, Britto, Castellino, and other surnames of Goan and Mangalorean origin Roman Catholics. Originally in India all were Hindus. Christian and Islamic missionaries converted them to their faiths. If a Mangalorean or Goan surnamed Roman Catholic converts to any religion of his choice need not be agitated. I was raised as a rice and its products eating person from childhood but today I eat Wheat and its other products. Religion is a opium of the masses, the more you involve in a particular religion the more you become narrow minded and support those who support violence. I do not believe in any religion. I do not spend any money on any religious material/issues. I respect cleanliness, intellectual and merit of a person than region, religion, caste, colour and nationality. If you want to lead a tension free life, please come out from the clutches of religion. I neither oppose any religion nor favour any religion. I give due respect to all the religion and its followers. I am happy and contented. I do not deride any religion, its teaching, its superior and its principles. The best thing one can do is: Neither condemn a religion nor praise any religion. But, decide on the basis of its merit if any religious issue is brought before you. By doing this you are neutral, not partial, no nepotism, no favouritism, no fights. Be a broad minded. Consider humanity as your religion. You will save a lot in terms of money and time.

People change Religion for personal reasons/benefits and not for Relegious values. The Relegious rituals/practices which have to do very little with religion per say are favoured or disfavoured & becomes yardstick.

Hinduism in it's original sense is most comprehensive and complicated and needs extremely high intellectual approach to understand, leave alone practicing. A millineum of foreign rule masked the great knowledge that Upanishads and Bhagavadgeeta provided.

Over time a few very poor Hindus and tribals in/around Mangaluru who were providing domestic help in Christian houses chose to become Christians.

But the Christians who coaxed these poor people to convert would not let their own children marry the poor converts.

By moving away from their previous community, the poor converts also completely lost their social bearing which provides a safety net.

For mental balance or physical belonging, everyone needs to belong to a community. But these poor converts lost their community.

They are neither among Christians nor among Hindus!

So anyone changing their religion as an individual family loses much. When a large number of families convert together, it is a different matter altogether.

Means of worshiping are many, plenty of religions out there but there is just one God who created us. At the end of the day we all follow one God. So religious groups need to stop fighting over it.

So many Hindus convert into Christians not by faith but because Chistian missionaries help them, feed them and take care of their children's education. Now who is to be blamed here? The poor Hindu who ran out of options or the missionary that helped them?

I would blame these nomadic self proclaimed Goldman of Hindu religion who don't care about their people but always feel a burn up their crack when Hindus convert into other religions and use it against each others for political gain.

Hindus superiors name Christians and Muslims as cult. But who is the bigger cult here?

Mr in India whoever converts to Hinduism is a recovert. However i would not mind if the reverse happens also. no problem if any body converts to any religion as long as the religion one converts is not dogmatic and can change with the times. today there is lot of strain on the environment as there is a huge population problem which directly contributes to pollution, water depletion, pushing other living beings into extinction. if a religion advocates population growth without understaing the consequences of it. please shun that religion. that apart, if a religion advocates the Golden rule " Do uto others what you want others to do unto you" then it is a god religion.

    Mark Chapter 4
    The Parable of the Sower
4.3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.

4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up.

5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow.

6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.

7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain.

8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”

14 The farmer sows the word.
15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.
16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy.
17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.
    18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word;
19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.
20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

Now many people will join the band wagon. Many converts in north India feel the discrimination in the churches and want to come back to their original religion and some have already came back. God bless them.

You are writing as a saint!!!!!. there is too much discrimination in our religion also compared to Christians. I don't want to say more they became hindus. Don't tell about discrimination I am sure we are # 1, as long as discrimination is concerned.

Yes you are right... In another media its said that being converted as a Christianity since 40 years they were following Hindu rituals and was a member of activists belong to Hindus. So how they claim as Christians. May they had some situation created to gain some earthly benefits since 40 years but not spiritually and they claim as being not happy is the reason to reconvert. You cannot serve the fake one when you really wanted to be with truth. That shows they truly not knowing what is Christianity. When Christ had to suffer for our salvation we shall also be put in test in the form of facing hard and difficulties in life before you gain the heavenly life. Anyways what they have done it with their rights. May they live happy life further at least but not like fake people who claims as Hindus but behave against the actual Hindu culture and interrupt peace in society .

Whether they convert from any religion to any religion there is nothing special... what matters is being human as a human religion... Understanding the depth of the religion...
whoever it is can't be equal to Perfect being...

If they are not happy with their faith in Christianity they have the freedom to try with the different religion/teachings. Let them enjoy their freedom . No one is terming this as conversation/love Jihadh
Can people from other religion do the same whenever a Hindhu family like to convert into Christianity?. no drama like conversation/love Jihadh/press conference.

Mahesh, I don't think many will be so exited like you to comment, because people are least bothered who is following which religion except very curious people like you, who gives more attention about others caste and religion. It is not a big loss for Christianity or huge gain for their new religion. Any one without faith and just for a cause can't stick against their will to anything. Good they choose their choice of faith to worship. No worries

If we look at the majority of comments from Christians ,it shows that they are not in number game like others. They are tolerant and understanding when someone chooses to be different on their own.Perhaps this is what is called modern civilised thinking...I find this very attractive..Peace,love freedom...and a happy world...to live...not to live under fear as many of our organization want people to...

@Mahesh mangalore,There is not much to comment about this.It is not a thrilling story.People who are not steady in their religion change it like changing the sides.Important is they are happy .By the way what problems they faced there I want to know (as SWamiji said)was it from the people who helped to reconvert? It is still bit unusual.Never mind, hope in future they will not change again to another religion.

Only one way traffic on unauthorised route. It's plain conversation or changing one's faith. It's wrong to term this as reconversion. After some time when they feel suffocated, the family may opt for a different faith like Buddhism. Anyway as long as they are happy so it be.

Shetty please note Christians donot descriminate caste basis. Christians Beleive in one god and no decrimination on the beleif. One god one beleif. Ultimate love JESUS christ who died on the cross for all of us. No god had sacrificed such way just to save the world. Pope or priest is not a easy position to have. To become a pope it is long process . It has a vote system and a lengthy process. It is not wear Dhothi and carry ghanta in hand and go around not that easy. Your opinion is good with a marrow minded but do some research on Christians religion and about Jesus christ. LiVing like christ you need to be strong to accept humiliation, learn to forgive your ememies, if some one beats on one cheek turn the other cheek so that your emery can beat you still christ says forgive him. Such teaching are not thought by no one except our saviour Jesus christ. Please make some time to read a bible. Man you will be so happy of reading. Christians are happy and peacefull people do you know why bze of our saviour JESUS. Power of christ is real. Only when you experience you will never turn back.
