Udupi, Jul 23: Karnataka Lokayukta Justice K Vishwanath Shetty paid unannounced visits to many government hostels in the district.

Bannanje pre-metric and post-metric girl’s hostel which comes under social welfare department, Aroor Morarji residential school, ITDP Bannanje Ashram school, backward classes post-metric girls’ hostel Bannanje, pre-metric girls’ hostel Brahmavar are the places he visited.

He checked the places for the way the food is prepared, cleanliness in and around hostel, basic amenities and other things. He spoke to the students and interacted with them. He advised the hostel managements to buy computers for the benefits of students.

He also asked the hostel authorities to use the empty space for gardens in hostel. Wherever there was no place for sports activities, he asked them to create space for the same.

He was seen unhappy with some hostels and asked the managements to act fast to provide necessary facilities for students. He said he will visit more hostels next time.

Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Tahasildar Mahesh Chandra, backward classes welfare departments’ district officer Harish Gaonkar and Ramesh from social welfare department were present with the Lokayukta.
