Mangaluru, Jul 23: A woman filed a complaint in Bajpe police station on SaturdayJuly 22, alleging that a car in which Moodbidri MLA and former minister, Abhay Chandra Jain, was travelling, hit her near a petrol bunk at Kinnipadavu near Bajpe. She also said that when she somehow mustered enough strength to recover from this accident, stood up and approached the car to protest against rash driving, the MLA pushed her to the ground. She said she suffered injuries in this incident.
Zainabi (48) from Bajpe, who happens to be the complainant in this case, has got herself admitted into a private hospital here for treatment of injuries. The accident reportedly happened on the evening of Friday July 21 at Bajpe Kinnipadavu when the MLA was moving towards Moodbidri from the city via Bajpe.
Zainabi's relatives said that the woman fell to the ground after the car nudged her hard. She had to put some efforts to stand up by holding on to the handle of the car door. She questioned the MLA about the negligent driving and the driver's behaviour in overlooking her and trying to go ahead without any concern. The MLA forcibly released the grip of the woman on the door handle, and pushed her down. As a result, Zainabi fell to the ground again, they explained. When the woman told Jain that she would file police complaint, he arrogantly asked her to approach and complain to anyone at her discretion, without showing even the minimum courtesy or remorse for the wrongs committed by him and his driver, it is said.
Bajpe police have registered a case against Jain and his car driver, Sudarshan K Kittur. A case of rash driving under section 279 of Indian Penal Code, inflicting injury under section 337, and pushing the woman under section 323 has been registered. The driver and car were taken into possession, and Sudarshan was released on bail. The police said that they will send a report to the speaker of the state assembly seeking permission to act against the erring MLA.
