Puttur, Jul 22: The inauguration of Students’ Council 2017-18 of St Philomena College here was held on July 20 in the college auditorium.
Speaking on the occasion, Pius L Rodrigues, director, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board said, "Students play a vital role in nation building. One should be sincere about the duties not only for self, but also in the prospects of the nation."
Ishwara Bhat, chartered accountant from Madikeri was the chief guest. Releasing the college annual souvenir, he said, "Students must make use of the available opportunities in an optimum manner."
Fr Vijay Lobo, principal, St Philomena PU College and Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monterio, campus director and chairman of PG studies were the guests of honour. Principal Prof Leo Noronha administered the oath of office. Correspondent Fr Alfred J Pinto presided over the programme.
Jayaraj Bhandary, president, Alumni Association and CA Gangadhar C, president, PTA complimented the office bearers of the Students’ Council.
Earlier, the members of Performing Arts Association presented the prayer song. Students’ Council president Nixon Joseph A A welcomed the gathering. secretary Mahammad Ashiq introduced the chief guests. Sahana Rao compered the programme. Joint secretary Sweedal Lobo proposed the vote of thanks. Welfare officers Dr Vijaya Kumar M and Bharathi Rai coordinated the programme.
