Udupi, Jul 21: A couple residing near Rama Mandir at Ambalpady Kappettu here, which lived together after marriage and shared joy and sorrow in each other's company all along their lives, breathed their last the same day.
The couple which exhibited this exemplary closeness happened to be Somayya Shettigar (85), and his wife, Netravati Shettigar (76). The couple has left behind three daughters and a son.
Somayya and Netravati always cherished the principles of mutual cooperation and peaceful coexistence. Of late, both were suffering from age-related health problems, it is learnt. Somayya, who was admitted into hospital after his asthma problem aggravated, was discharged. At that time, his wife, Netravati, was admitted into a private hospital. Within sometime since he reached home, Somayya's health worsened and he breathed his last. Within an hour since her husband's demise, the condition of Netravati, who was in the hospital, too turned critical and she lost her life.
The couple thus became one in death too. Their funeral was conducted at the Hindu graveyard at Beedinagudde here.
