Mangaluru, Jul 20: A day long free career guidance programme by Vikas Pre-university College in association with Daijiworld group 'What Next After 2nd PUC', was inaugurated at Town Hall here on Thursday, July 20.

Vice-chancellor of Mangalore University Prof K Byrappa inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp along with chairman of Vikas Education Trust, Krishna J Palemar, principal of Vikas PU college Prof T Rajaram Rao and adviser of the college Dr Ananth Prabhu.

In his keynote address Prof Byarappa said, "Determination and discipline is very essential to students. PUC is the right time to decide one's future. During our times, there were no career guidance programmes. Our teachers used to advise us on our future based on our performance in school. That is not the case now. Career guidance centres perform the job of advising. For this, they charge a huge amount in the form of fees. Only a few colleges provide free career guidance for the students. You, the students of Vikas College are lucky. It shows the management's concern about students and their future."

"Choose your field and stick to your decision. Choosing something due to others' pressure is not good for one's career. You should always focus on your goals. Do not worry about subjects as all subjects meet at one place at some point of time. Technology in today's times helps students to explore their favourite subjects. Search engines give a lot of information to students on the subjects they love. Hence, decide on something which you like, so that you can successful," he added.

Presiding the function, Krishna J Palemar said, "There will be a lot of confusion in students who are in SSLC and PUC. At that age, everything appears colourful. Students will find it very difficult on what to decide. Taking a decision in career is very important at this age. Discipline is another feature that students should adopt at this age. A disciplined student will take the right decision to shape his or her career. I wish the very best for all the students gathered here from Vikas and various others colleges of Mangaluru."

Earlier, principal T Rajaram Rao delivered the introductory speech. The workshop will feature famous resource persons who will speak on numerous career options available for students after 2nd PU, with an introduction to career planning.
