Bengaluru, Jul 19: Senior IPS officer, Roopa D Moudgil, who had earned the ire of the government after exposing irregularities in Parappana Agrahara prison in the city and hence transferred, took over as the deputy inspector general of police of the state for traffic and road safety on Tuesday July 18.
Roopa arrived at the police headquarters located at Nripatuga Road here in the afternoon. She met state director general of police, R K Dutta, for sometime before going to her room in the complex and taking charge of the new assignment. Speaking to journalists who met her, Roopa said it is her duty to obey the orders of the government and that her personal feelings or emotions do not matter. "In the police department, there are no good and bad departments. Everything is good. I do not deem this transfer as punishment. It is a normal process and I have obeyed it," she clarified.
In the meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon, director general of prisons, H N Satyanarayana Rao, who has been transferred, handed over charge to newly appointed additional director general of prisons, N S Megharikh. Both the officers held discussions for sometime. Megharikh told the media persons that he has taken over charge as per government orders. He added that he has the experience of having functioned as a member of committee headed by senior IPS officers relating to Parappana Agrahara prison. "Therefore I have some experience about the functioning of this prison and information about alleged wrongdoings. I will cooperate with retired IAS officer, Vinay Kumar,who is investigating the allegations" he stated.
The vacancy created by the transfer of Roopa has been filled with the appointment of deputy inspector general, H S Revanna, in her place.He also has been given additional charge of chief superintendent of Parappana Agrahara prison.
