Mangaluru: Coastal districts register good rainfall, to continue

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Almost all parts of coastal districts of Karnataka received good rainfall on Tueday July 18. Some areas also experienced strong wind.

Several areas in the city including Bunts Hostel, PVS circle, Kankanady and other places witnessed artificial floods and school children were seen wading through standing water with umbrellas and school bags. Kotekar Beeri, Talapady, Thokkottu and nearby places experienced thunder and strong breeze.

Vehicular traffic was thrown out of gear as water from the rivulet entered the Kaniyoor-Bellare road. Almost all the taluks in the twin-districts got good rainfall on Tuesday. After the bridge at Chelyaka got inundated, people from several villages like Ajjikallu and Gummatagadde faced problem in travelling to Puttur. Buses and other vehicles took a detour via Santyaru to reach Puttur.



The meteorological department, in a prediction that is valid till Thursday morning, said that good rainfall will continue to occur in coastal region and many parts located in the inland.

Kodagu district also received copious rainfall on Tuesday after a long time, as a result of which lifeline of the district, River Cauvery, has begun to get lot of inflow. The rain, which is continuing since Monday, is threatening to flood several low-lying roads in the district. Schools around Bhagamandala in Kodagu were given holiday on Tuesday afternoon in view of rising water level.

    Good rain in catchment is the most thing for karanataka . Shimgoa zone is getting good rains and if we get good rains in Bhagmandala for the next few days it will be great . There is so much of forest gone soil erosion is causing major problems in dams getting smaller and we dont have the machinery to desilt our dams . This is our major problem and very soon our dams will be full of silt and mud and cannot store water

    Let the rainfall be heavy at Kodagu Kaveri catchment area so that our KRS dam would brim with water level.
