Puttur, Jun 17: The inaugural function of students’ council of St Philomena Pre-University College here for the academic year, was held in college auditorium on Friday, June 16.
NRI entrepreneur and alumnus Michael D’Souza inaugurated the council and said, “The quality of education leads to success and happiness in life. The office bearers of the Students’ Council must work with commitment and responsibility."
The principal of St Philomena College, professor Leo Noronha said, “The role of education is a process of self discovery. Education helps discover inner talents and creates wonders in our life."
The campus director Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro advised the students to join together and not criticize, but to contribute. He said that the students should work hard and cultivate disciplined life.
The correspondent of the college Fr Alfred J Pinto said, "Good education is required for everyone. We need to maintain accountability and transparency in all our activities."
The vicar general of Diocese of Mangalore and vice president of Catholic Board of Education, Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu, in his presidential address said, "There is no substitute for hard work. Every student must understand his potentiality and talents."
On occasion, Rachana N R was honoured for her tremendous achievements in NCC whereby she had taken part in the prestigious 68th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.
The principal of the college Fr Vijay Lobo administered the oath to the office bearers of students’ Council.
A Jagajeevandas Rai, vice president of Alumni Association and Dr Sooryanarayana, president of PTA graced the occasion.
Cleona and group presented the prayer song. The president of the council, Allan Rovin Pinto, welcomed the gathering. Secretary Krithi A T proposed the vote of thanks. Dimple J Fernandes compered the programme. The directors of students’ council Bharath Kumar A and Usha A coordinated the programme.
