Mangaluru, Jun 9: Understanding the need and importance of harmony in life and society, St Aloysius B Ed College, a premiere institute in the field of teacher education, observed the International Harmony Day on the theme 'Everyone Belongs'.
Brahma Kumari Sr BK Ambika, a member of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, Urwa, Mangaluru, was the chief guest of the programme. She highlighted the need of harmony in a person and the ways of attaining it. She also cited various examples causing disharmony in individuals. Social and communal disharmony were the major highlights of her speech.
Students performed a dance highlighting the diverse cultures of the country and a dance-drama showing various causes of communal disharmony in the country. Verses related to peace and harmony were read from Hindu, Christian and Muslim scriptures.
Fr Eric Mathias SJ, director of the college, stressed on being harmonious within oneself and developing a spirit of compassion and tolerance. He congratulated the staff and students for their portrayal of harmony in the present context and the various areas where seeds of peace could be sown.
The interconnectedness and oneness across the globe was shown by placing the prints of the palms of the chief guest, dignitaries and student representatives. Sr Alphonsa invoked God’s blessingson the gathering, Semima read the significance of observing Harmony Day, Sr Bhakthi Prabha introduced the chief guest to the audience. Dr Farita Viegas, principal, administered a pledge of peace and harmony and Royal delivered the vote of thanks. Sandhya, staff in-charge, organized the programme and Lalithanjali compered the programme.
