Mangaluru, May 20: Savitha K, a third year B Sc student of St Agnes College, Mangaluru who served as a volunteer in the National Service Scheme of the college, received NSS State Award as Best NSS Volunteer of the last year, from Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah in the Banquet Hall, Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru on Tuesday, May 16.
She was awarded in recognition of her meritorious services rendered in the field of NSS which included her very responsible discharge of duties assigned to her to the utmost satisfaction of the officers-in-charge of NSS and all concerned, besides being conscientious and outgoing.
This year she received the Best NSS Volunteer Award from the Mangalore University. Professor K Byrappa, vice - chancellor of Mangaluru University handed over this award on March 28 in the Mangala Auditorium, Konaje.
During her two years of service, she took part in all the activities conducted by NSS, and represented the college in many programmes conducted at the University level and proved herself to be one of the best in all fields.
Savitha is known to be multifaceted and highly talented, with commendable leadership skills. Her agility in Yoga provided her many opportunities to compete and excel a number of programmes inside and outside the college. During the International Yoga Day celebration, she was invited by different schools and colleges of the district to train NCC students in Yoga. She was able to impart training on Yoga to more than 1500 students.
Her capabilities have not only brought laurels to the college but also afforded her an opportunity to represent Mangalore University, Karnataka State at the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi, last year. She has represented Mangalore University for the National Level Yoga Competition organised by the Kurukshetra University, Haryana. She has a special talent in drawing and won many laurels in various competitions.
