Puttur, Mar 8: In an incident that has been reported with delay, police personnel from Uppinangady and the town station here toiled hard, based on a complaint made by a truck driver recently. At the end, the police realized that the truck driver had taken them for a ride because of his anger over some people.
Ganesh from Sullia was the complainant truck driver. He called the police control room to inform that a gang had robbed him of Rs 8,000 he had in his possession and that the gang had escaped in a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle after robbing him. He also provided registration number of the vehicle.
The police after receiving the complaint immediately drew up a plan and waited for intercepting the vehicle at Kadambu near Perne on national highway 75. In addition to sub-inspector of Uppinangady station, circle inspector of the rural station here, highway patrol squad and police personnel were deployed on the highway.
When the Scorpio vehicle mentioned by the driver came there, three police vehicles and a large number of police personnel surrounded the vehicle. Those inside the car, out of fear, did not open the doors of their vehicle for about 15 minutes. Later, additional police personnel were summoned and the occupants were forced to open the doors. Nine persons from Bengaluru including Akshay, Sridhar and Nagaraj, who were the occupants of the vehicle, were taken into custody. They were taken to Sampya police station for questioning. Senior police officers of the district also came to Sampya police station in view of the serious nature of the complaint.
However, the police were in for a surprise when they came to know that the truck driver had given them false information. The people in the Scorpio were among a team of people from Bengaluru who had taken up trip of Murudeshwar in two vehicles, a Scorpio and an Alto car. At Shiradi Ghat, the truck driven by Ganesh, which was carrying vegetables, incessantly refused to give way to the Scorpio that was trying to overtake the truck. Thereafter there was tussle between the truck driver and people in the Scorpio on this issue, after which the vehicles continued their journey. The truck driver, having been humbled by the people in the Scorpio, tried to teach them a lesson by creating a fake story of rubbery, the police personnel realized.
The truck driver was issued a warning and released after getting a bond executed.
