Udupi, Mar 8: Unable to cope with the pressure of scoring well in exams, a youngster committed suicide by hanging at his residence at Kunjibettu here on Wednesday March 8.
The deceased has been identified as Harish (17), son of Hanumanthappa, a resident of Purushothamnagar, Kunjibettu.
Harish was a second PU commerce student of MGM College here.
It is said that Harish was good in studies and always scored well. He aimed at getting the top rank in second PU board exams and would often talk about it with his teachers and parents, it is said.
However, the pressure to secure the top rank is said to have been to much to cope with for Harish, and hence he took the extreme step, sources said.
On Wednesday morning, when his parents were out and only he and his sister were in the house, Harish tied a saree to the fan and hanged himself.
His parents who were shocked at the development said that they had left no stone unturned to provide him everything. "We do not know why our son did this. He would begin his day by taking our blessing every morning. We do not know what happened," the bereaved parents said.
A case has been registered.
