Mangaluru, Feb 24: Strongly condemning the bandh call given by pro-Hindu organisations and BJP against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s visit to the district for a communal harmony programme, CPI(M) state commitee secretary G V Sriram Reddy said that Sangh Parivar was trying to impose fascist policy and also going against the constitution.
Addressing medipersons here on Friday, February 24 Reddy said, “BJP and pro-Hindu organisations are going against the constitution. We will not bow to fascist policies. BJP held its council meeting in Kerala recently for which the government gave full protection. No incident of violence was reported,”
“Pro-Hindu organisations called Pinarayi Vijayan, a merchant of death. Surprisingly, it seems like thy have forgotten that they were involved directly in the assassination of Gandhiji and in the Gujarat riots. They are raising hue and cry just for political benefits. CPI(M) will never bend down to any threat and will face any challenge thrown by these pro-Hindu organisations. We need to be strong against those who disturb the peace and harmony of the society. We are not afraid and are ready for any sacrifice. Our office, banners, flex were set ablaze by some miscreants thinking that CPI(M) will bow down, but it is impossible for them to destroy our thinking and ideologies,” he stressed.
When mediapersons pointed out that the pro-Hindu organisations were against Vijayan speaking on communal harmony, Reddy said, “Every individual has their own right to speak. No person can dictate terms. This is what pro-Hindu organisation are up to. This is what Hitler and Mussolini did in Germany and Italy respectively."
DYFI president Muneer Kaatipalla, CPI(M) Karnataka state committee member Yadav Shetty and others were present.
Sangh Paivar creating confusion in society - Ramanath Rai
Earlier in the day, district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai lambasted Sangh Parivar for its activities and said that it was trying to create confusion in the society by calling for a bandh in the district opposing the visit of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for a communal harmony rally organised by CPI-M in Mangaluru on Febrauary 25.
Addressing mediapersons at Circuit House, Rai said, “This move by pro-hindu organisations have led to frictions within the society. The general public will be simply put into trouble. Sangh Parivar in the district is trying to fight for its existence. We assure that the hartal will not turn violent in the district. The government and the district administration will not tolerate any kind of violence and provocation from the miscreants,”
"Pinarayi Vijayan is attending an official programme. It is not right to call bandh and it is also against democracy. The bandh called by Sangh Parivar will further deteriorate the situation. We have already ordered the district administration to take preventive measures to prevent violence in the district. People should not lend ear to any provocations,” said Rai.
Commenting on MLC Govindraju diary issue, Rai said, "This allegation made by Yeddyurappa is completely baseless. You see, Yeddyurappa who himself landed in jail on corruption charges is commenting on the issue. Congress will never misuse its power".
