Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 23: Tight security arrangements have been put in place for the communal harmony programme to be organized by CPI(M) in the city on Saturday February 25.

Addressing a joint press meet here on Thursday February 23, district superintendent of police (SP) Bhushan G Borase and police commissioner Chandra Sekhar warned that strict action would be taken against those who violate the law.

As many as 2,000 police personnel including six superintendents of police (SPs), 10 ASPs, 20 police sub-inspectors (PSIs), 20 KSRP platoons will be on duty on the day of the programme to prevent untoward incidents.

The security has been beefed up in the wake of Sangh Parivar calling for a bandh on February 25 in protest against the arrival and participation of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the programme.

Also, 600 CCTV cameras and six drone cameras will be used across the city to keep a keen watch.

Across the district, 2 SPs, 2 additionals SPs, 4 DySPs, 6 KSRP platoons, 20 DAR squads, 2 teams of rapid action force will be deployed, along with installation of CCTV cameras.

"We can allow the peaceful protest, but stringent action will be taken against those who disrupt the law," the police officers said.

They also warned against spreading rumours on social media like WhatsApp and Facebook, and said that those who do so will be dealt with strictly.

Also, speaking to reporters separately, the police commissioner said that notices have been issued to 41 persons for declaring the bandh illegally.

It is learnt that the notices have been issued to persons belonging to right-wing outfits like VHP, Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Bajrang Dal and others.

"As per the orders of the Supreme Court, nobody can declare a bandh. Hence we have issued notices to 41 persons in this regard," said the police commissioner.

"No one has the right to disrupt law and order. Strict action will be taken against those who violate the law," he warned.

The notices to 41 persons have been issued under section 107 on the kind of bandh they plan to hold.

The department of Law and Order has sufficient work. In the ordinary course the supplement of Police Personnel is inadequate to manage such a large City and the district. Fortunately we have an excellent Police Force in the City headed by an efficient officer like Mr.
chandrashekar ably assisted by his D.C.P's Mr. Sanjiv Patill and Mr.Shantaraju. At the district level too we have a very good officer like Mr. Bhusha The Superintendent of Police . It will be good for all well meaning citizens to cooperate with the department of Law and Order.
