Puttur, Feb 23: The fifth additional district and sessions court here, in its verdict delivered on Wednesday February 22, said that the charge of murder of a couple at Undila in Kodimbala village in the taluk nearly five years ago, which was levelled against two persons, has been proved. The court will pronounce its decision on quantum of sentence in this case relating to barbaric murder on February 25.
The two accused, Muhammed Rafiq alias Rafiq from Somwarpet taluk and Muhammed Kamaluddin, resident of Nuriyalu in Uuruvalu village, Beltangady taluk, had approached Baby Thomas residing at Undila at midnight on September 25, 2012. They told Baby Thomas that their motor bike had developed snags and that they still had about 1.5 km to go before reaching the home of the wife of one of the accused. Baby Thomas, who knew the area mentioned by the duo, took them there in his Tata Indica car. When the car was passing through Bollur Cross, the accused asked Thomas to stop the car.

Rafiq, who was sitting in the back seat, stabbed Baby Thomas with a knife, it is said. He then held both the hands of Thomas tightly from behind, after which Kamaluddin sliced the throat of Thomas with a knife. The accused then came back to the house of Baby Thomas after which they entered the house and murdered Mary Thomas, wife of Baby, by insterting knife into her neck. The murderers then decamped with cash, gold ornaments, cellphone etc.
Kadaba police station personnel, who took up the case, arrested the accused duo on the basis of the cellphone they had stolen. Both were remanded to judicial custody. The police found that the accused had sold the stolen ornaments at Somwarpet. Judge of the fifth additional district and sessions court, M Ramachandra, announced on Wednesday that both the accused have been found guilty of the offence of murder. Public prosecutor, M Udayakumar, had presented arguments on behal fof the prosecution in the case.
