Mangaluru, Feb 22: 'Tiara-2017', a two-day national level technical fest hosted by St Joseph's Engineering College (SJEC) was inaugurated on Wednesday, February 22 at the Kalam Auditorium in the College.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by chief guest of the programme Fr Denzil Lobo, director, St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT). A unique unveiling of the logo of the event, which had the words 'Tiara-2017' shining bright in LED lights, took place thereafter.
Fr Denzil Lobo who spoke on the occasion revealed that he loved being with youngsters and hence agreed to be part of the event. "You youngsters are the future of this country and the world. Fifty percent of the population of India is below the age of 25 years. The human resource available in India is great. You people have a bright future to look forward to," he said.
With various quotes of successful people, Fr Lobo said that the common thing between great personalities and everybody else is that all of them were ordinary people. "All of them were just like you and me. They had passion within them. And to realise their ideas, they worked hard for hours and hours. The final product always looks nice, but the effort behind every successful venture is quite a big one. If you want to be like the great personalities, you have to work hard. And then you will be iconic," he added.
"The latest gadgets are the results of productive thinking. Great scientists broke barriers. Events like 'Tiara-2017' will help you come out with new ideas. Your skills will also be developed. We all will be very happy if you go out as one of best alumni of SJEC," he concluded.
Fr Denzil Lobo was honoured by Fr Joseph J Lobo, director, SJEC and others present on the dais.
Fr Joseph J Lobo in his presidential address said, "I see a lot of energy in the students. There has been a lot of preparation for the event. All the participants engage yourself in activities to bring out your creativity. This a god-given opportunity for all of you. The country and your family have their hopes on you. You have to be ambassadors of this campus. In order to be great leaders, you have to invest in yourself. Hardwork is the key. Develop your knowledge and focus on your studies. You have to focus, have a clear vision and plan to achieve something. You can become a good leader only if you take risk and face challenges. Defeat the fear in you and use the opportunity at events like these."
Earlier, Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal, SJEC welcomed the gathering. Convenor of Tiara-2017 Orville Sutari delivered the vote of thanks.
Fr Rohith D’Costa, assistant director, SJEC; Dr Rio D’Souza, vice-principal, SJEC, convenor of Tiara-2017 Evita Coelho, deans of various departments, faculty members and students were present.
The two-day annual technical fest Tiara-2017 to be held on February on 22 and 23 will offer a platform for the students to showcase their technical competency and also offers an opportunity to interact with experts and peers on various technical skills and knowledge.
