Dharwad, Feb 20: In a shocking incident which occurred on the night of Saturday February 18 at Managundi village in the taluk, a boy, who was being taken to the graveyard by pall bearers for funeral showed symptoms of being alive on the bier minutes before his body was to be consigned to flames.
The boy who came to life in this way was Kumar Maradi (16). It is learnt that Kumar had been bitten by a street dog some days back. As the wound was not properly attended to medically, the infection had turned critical. The boy had thereafter fallen unconscious due to septic shock. The parents had admitted him into a private hospital.
Kumar was treated at the hospital for four days but he neither regained consciousness nor showed any symptoms of recovery. The doctors therefore asked his parents to carry Kumar home. The parents, who observed that the breathing and pulse of the boy had stopped, concluded that he had died. They had made preparations for his funeral at the graveyard.
After he was placed on the bier and was being taken to the graveyard, the boy suddenly started to breathe. Noticing this, the parents and relatives stopped mourning, and rushed him to a private hospital at Hubballi. The boy is being treated in the intensive care unit of the hospital. This incident came as a shock for the entire village, who even now shudder at the prospects of conducting the funeral of a living being on account of erroneous assessment of his condition.
