Mangaluru, Feb 18: Senior Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary on Saturday February 18 said that he would be 'happy' to get a notice from the Congress, but asserted that he would not leave the party as it was in his 'blood'.
Replying to a question on KPCC reccommending disciplinary action against him and Jaffer Sharief, Poojary said, "I have always believed in speaking the truth, even the Constitution says Satyameva Jayate. I even follow the principles of Nehru family. Is it wrong to advise Siddaramaiah when he takes hasty decisions?
"Let Congress issue notice. Even I am waiting for it and I will be happy. But I am not ready to leave the party which is in my blood," he added.
Addressing a press meet here, Poojary apologised to the people of the country as well as the family members of journalist Chethanram Iranthaje for announcing a monthly financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for the next kin of the journalist, as he is unable to afford the sum. Chethanram Iranthaje who was working as a stinger for Prajavaani daily from Sullia recently passed away due to heart attack.
"I apologise not only to the people of the state but to the whole country for the mistake that I have committed. I started repenting after announcing a monthly financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the family of Chethanram. This was the biggest blunder I have ever committed in my political career. During the recent press conference I announced financial assistance but the truth is, I am not in a condition to pay such a huge amount to his family every month," he said.
"During the recent press conference I paid floral tribute to him and I turned emotional and without thinking, I announced such a huge amount. Media and friends enlightened me before I made the announcement, but I did not think before my final announcement of providing financial assistance and I have failed to deliver my promise. But I will pay one time sum of Rs 50,000 to the family of Chethanram," he said.
He later handed over a cheque to Chethanram family through Prajavaani reporter Mahesh who was present there.
