Mangaluru, Feb 18: In a major breakthrough, police have taken four persons into custody relating to the murder of Kalia Rafiq, sources in the city said on Friday, February 17.
Kasai Ali alias Noor Ali and Rauf from Uppala and Paddu alias Padmanabha and Rashid from Mangaluru are the suspects taken into custody.
Police had suspected the role of Kasai Ali from the beginning, who was a rival of Kalia Rafiq. Kalia Rafiq had killed Kasai Ali’s brother Mutalib in front of his wife. Kasai Ali was trying to take revenge for this murder.
Rauf was tortured by Kalia Rafiq and gang three months back at Uppala. It is said that Rauf was buried in sand with his only head up and was tortured for hours when the gang beat him up. Rauf had to spend days in hospital after that.

It is now leant that Kalia Rafiq was going to Mangaluru to catch a train to proceed to Pune where he wanted to spend some days in a secret hideout. He changed two cars on the way as he had fears that Kasai Ali would attack him. Kasai Ali who was trying to kill Kalia Rafiq for a long time, ultimately managed to kill him on Tuesday night.
Kalia Rafiq was an associate of Kali Yogish and was involved in extortion. Hence police sources say that gang wars between Kalia Rafiq and Kasai Ali gangs cannot be ruled out.
Police are yet to officially confirm that the four suspects have been taken into custody.
