Mangaluru, Feb 16: 'EPITOME 2K17', a national-level fest organised by St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT), was inaugurated on Thursday February 16, at the AIMIT Beeri campus by Dr Yogesh Dube, special executive officer, government of Maharashtra, Dr Dube, a member of the Indian Council for Cultural Research, government of India, and Dr Sanjay Dessai, vice-pincipal of Shree Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Goa.
On the theme of the programme 'Surgical Strike', Prof Santhosh Rebello, dean, School of Information Technology, AIMIT, enlightened the audience on how it equates to a new realm of cognitive solutions in the application of technology. Cognitive solutions used for strategic management would lead to systems programmed to train new systems. He said that current technology is more oriented toward requirements of strategic corporate decisions that are intuitive and futuristic and this is possible by the use of cognitive solutions.
Dr Dube, in his inaugural address expressed his admiration for St Aloysius College in organizing this kind of unparalleled event in the field of technology. He said the IT boom has affected the affluent in further development, whereas the same positive effect should be extended to rural life as well. The computer chip which has been used as an extended part of the human brain should be used for productive use in business and government, leveraging the development in earth and satellite based support structures. Dr Dube said technology, with its intended and unintended use, wins in the long run, in its capacity of infinite power of global reach by use of optical fibre, storage capacity, and display devices. It is the responsibility of the current generation to use it for the good of people and especially for the development of children and the disabled, he said.
Dr Sanjay Dessai was the guest of honour. With his in-depth knowledge on facts and figures, his take on surgical strike put more emphasis on where our priorities should be. He gave a rundown on the use of resources in defense against education. He also reiterated the importance of educating children on the positive impact of propagation and dissemination of peace.
Fr Denzil Lobo, director of AIMIT partly referred to the interview of Satya Nadella of Microsoft on information technology, in which Nadella said 'Longevity in this business is about being able to reinvent yourself or invent the future'. Fr Denzil talked about how big companies should reinvent for dominance in the marketplace and avoid the fear of risk of innovation. The future belongs to innovation, he said, recalling his earlier discussion with academicians, and relentless innovation is the only solution for future growth and sustenance.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Suman Lasrado, faculty coordinator of EPITOME 2017. He also gave an update on the latest number of participants registered for this event, from within and out of state colleges, at 30-plus colleges with more than 350 students.
The two-day events will be running in parallel in the state-of-the-art Beeri campus of St Aloysius College for two days with about 35 external judges for events - The Best IT Manager, IT Quiz, Coding, Application Development, Web Development, Product Rep, Parliament, News Hunt, Treasure Hunt, Gaming, Video Editing, and Culturals.
The valedictory programme with results and prize distribution will be held on Friday February 17 at 4:15 pm.
