Mangaluru, Feb 6: Nethravati Rakshna Samyuktha Samithi (NRSS) which has been spearheading a movement against Yettinahole project will hold a fast unto death protest on Febrauary 10 near the Deputy Commissioner's office demanding the withdrawal of Yettinahole project, informed Shashi Raj Shetty Kolambe, a member of the samithi.
Addressing mediapersons here on Monday, Febrauary 6, Kolambe said, “We will first garland the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Town Hall and then hold the fast unto death protest near DC's office. Local MLAs, MLCs, zilla panchayat president, religious leaders from all religions and other prominent personalities will take part in the protest and fight against the implementation of Yettinahole project,”
"MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Harikrishna Bantwal, Monappa Bhandary, Harish Poonja, Siraj Adkere, Purushotham Chitapur, Sharan Pumpwell, Jitendra Kottary, Satyajit Suratkal, Raghuveer Sooterpet, Anand Adyar, Sanjay Prabhu, Dinakar Shetty, several swamijis, religious heads, leaders of various organisations will participate in the fast unto death protest,” said Satyajith Surathkal, another member.
Activist MG Hegde said, "Several elected representatives and religious leaders have extended their support to the fast unto death protest to save Nethravati river, the lifeline of Dakshina Kannada. Any interruptions during the protest will be definitely responded with a bandh call. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai and the state government will be directly responsible if anything goes wrong during the protest.”
“We urge the government to stop Yettinahole project on temporary basis as it might involve a tedious procedure to withdraw it completely. We need to have some alternative measures to provide water for the people of the district. Ministers here claim that 24 TMC of water is available right now at Yettinahole. But the truth is that there is no water in Yettinahole.” he concluded.
Hanif Konaje, Dinaker Shetty and others were present.
