Shivamogga: Burqa controversy at college refuses to die down

Daijiworld Media Network - Shivamogga (SP)

Shivamogga, Feb 6: Although the premises of Sahyadri Art and Commerce College here has been wearing a calm look after dispute over dress code resulted in protests and accusations, the issue seems to have spilled out into the open. There have been attempts to fuel the controversy further and disrupt peace through inflammatory material in social websites.

Rubbishing the action of students who had protested against girl students wearing burqas inside the college campus, town-based Rehman and Imran, who are currently working in Dubai, reportedly posted threatening messages through WhatsApp. They used derogatory language to denounce the protesters. These messages have been spreading all through the district. In response, a youth from the town, identified as Preetam, too posted abusive comment against the above comments, which too has been spreading.

The posts made by these three youngsters are being discussed at various forums, and many are apprehensive about the chances of them communally inciting the youth. Without taking any chances, police have registered suo motu case in Kote police station here. They have issued lookout notices against Imran and Rehman based in Dubai. They are also making effort to nab Preetam from the town, it is gathered.

District superintendent of police, Abhinav Khare, has warned that in addition to those who post disruptive material through WhatsApp and those who share them, even the administrators of the groups concerned would be acted against.

its true that in india everyone has freedom to wear as per their wish.
we should think on certain things why uniforms in school one reason is their should not be any inferiority complex among kids.
same way i feel their should be some restriction on some vulgar dress. some tv anchors celebrities are wearing.
and in this burka issue there are some negative feelings comes. why some people specially muslims are trying to show we people are different from rest of the world.
let every one be in other decent dresses too.
let indians be mixed with all.

You have to apply a dress code uniformly if you have one. Otherwise don't have any dress code and let people wear what they like. It is the selective application of rules/law that creates problem in India.

Education institution should be platform to build student future. RSS student wing ABVP using campus as springboard for political gain . Since the BJP alleviation to center campus invasion is increasing with resulting in Phd student Rohit Verma suicide Hyderabad university to connecting reputed JNU with anti national using doctored videos. Two days ago ABVP shuts down Jodhpur University for a day and registrar files police complaint against Professor Nivedita Menon. In the past Mangalore now it is Malanadu college.

Constitution of India guarantees every citizen of India to practice his/her religion freely. In this nation Sikh abiding to religious duty served as President,PM and soldiers. Women who wish to cover from preying eyes by wearing 'Burqa' ,should not be hindering block to acquiring knowledge.

U.S. service men and women who wish to wear a turban, beard or hijab for religious reasons will be able to gain approval thanks to revised uniform regulations that aim to better accommodate religious minorities serving in the military.Sikhs in the UK have won the right to wear their turbans to work.

ABVP should come out religious vendetta and stereotype when nation is aspiring to be 'Digital India'.
School and campus are the symbol of unity. Mixing religion with education is disaster consequence for the nation.

In UP 'Love Jihad' was used to vote bank polarisation. In Karnataka 'Burqa' is being used to divide.

I would suggest ABVP to take stand to eradicate prostitution, inequality, sexual violence, gender bias, female infanticide rather than disrobing daughter of India.

    Jai hind

I appreciate the action taken by police to clear the issue. Police should take stern action to master minded the issue and also on those who are trying to escalate it further regardless of his political background. Such trouble makers should be arrested immediately. No politically supported students organisation should be allowed to function in college campus. any one trying to disrupt peace in the college should be debarred from college.

How the trouble started.... on its own ????? or some goons went to the muslim girls and threatened the girls to take out the Burqa.... If the goons are threatening .... then who are these goons????.... what the school management is doing / sleeping...
All the goons including the two from Dubai and one from Shimogga and the goons who approached the girls with threatening, should be sent to Bellary jail for one month ....

Dear Rajesh, no need to drag Europe and USA in this issue. This is a politically motivated issue to disturb peace in educational institutions. Honestly, I do not support wearing burka in educational institutions. However, there should not be any problems if the female students wear Hijab (head scarf). It gives a respectable look to females, irrespective of any religion. We should not encourage illiterate goons to interfere in educational issues.
